Calling the Patiala incident an act of cowards, Punjab Health & Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu on Sunday strongly condemned the ‘brutal attack’ on police officers who were standing on the check post to ensure the compliance of curfew restrictions at Sabji Mandi in Patiala.

The Minister said that the Punjab Government is stand united behind our brave police officers, who are working day and night for our security and maintaining law and order in the wake of Corona crisis. He said that this attack has showed the atrocious approach of some anti social elements, while the police personnel were just performing their duty to ensure the social distancing and implementation of curfew restrictions. He informed that the police officers had been immediately taken to hospital for an emergency surgery following serious injuries.

“This act of violence, which was specifically directed against police officers, in which several police officers suffering extremely serious injuries, is intolerable and unacceptable,” said the Health Minister.

Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that in the amid of difficult situation when almost whole world is fighting to break the chain of the virus to save the mankind, Police personnel and officials and employees of Health Department become front liner to deal with all unprecedented situations arises day by day after the outbreak. He said that dedication and devotion of officers and staff towards their duty of these two leading departments is praiseworthy and also set an example for the whole Nation.

Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the DGP, Punjab to take stern measures to implement the lockdown in the State. He said that strict action has been taken against all accused involved in this incident and no laxity would be tolerated in view of lockdown in the state.
