Data analyzed from Google Trends revealed that Bhojpuri movies surpassed Bollywood films on Google search in Indian in 2018.
The analysis showed that since 2015, the cricket and news-related searches have reduced significantly over film-relates searches.
Over the last 5 years, most internet movie searches have been for Bollywood or Hindi movies.
However, Bhojpuri movies were searched more than Bollywood films last year.
Moreover, it also revealed that the most googled Indian actor is Salman Khan while the most searched actress is Sunny Leone since 2013 in India.
In India, in fact for all Indians, from villages to cities, films are a big source of entertainment.
Earlier, the only source for information about movies was newspapers and cinema hall was the only place to watch movies.
But that has changed as Indian internet users have increased.
Indians are now increasingly favoring internet to watch films, read movie news or simply to keep an eyeball on their favorite movie star.
In 2014, Indians were searching for Tamil and Telugu films as well as googling Bhojpuri films.
Search interest in Bhojpuri cinema, since then has recorded a sharp rise, with Bhojpuri cinema laeding against Bollywood in 2018.
