Chandigarh: The new School Education, Higher Education and Sports & Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today assumed charge at the Punjab Civil Secretariat. Expressing gratitude to the party especially the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he assured that no effort would be spared to achieve the objective of taking Punjab to dazzling heights in the educational sphere.
The occasion also saw the august presence of Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, MLAs Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Budh Ram, Aman Arora, Amritpal Singh Sukhanand, Labh Singh Ugoke, Gurdit Singh Sekhon, Karambir Singh, Jasvir Singh Raja Gill, Muhammad Jamil Ur Rehman, Gurpreet Singh Banawali, Jagdeep Singh Goldy Kamboj, Manwinder Singh Gyaspura and Hardeep Singh Mundia.
Interacting with the mediapersons, the Minister said that Education would be the focus area of the State Government. He further added that the Aam Aadmi Party fought elections on the sweeping reforms in the Health and Education sectors in Delhi besides committing itself to implement the Delhi model in Punjab. He promised to erect a robust academic edifice in Punjab.
The newly inducted Minister also vowed to restore pristine glory of Punjab in the sporting arena. Divulging more, he said that there was a time when Punjab accounted for more than half of the medals that the country bagged but with the passage of time this contribution saw reduction. A comprehensive as well as effective sports policy would be chalked out to make Punjab claim it’s no. 1 spot in sports, said Meet Hayer adding the only thing that is needed is providing guidance to the youth to enable them for channelising their energy in the positive direction.
Notably, the Minister also chaired a meeting of the top brass of the School Education, Higher Education and Sports & Youth Services Departments and brainstormed about evolving an efficient and robust working mechanism.
Among others present on the occasion included Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar, Secretary School Education and Sports Ajoy Sharma, Director General School Education Pardeep Agarwal, Director Sports Parminder Pal Singh, DPI Colleges Upkar Singh and DPI Secondary Education Sukhjit Pal Singh.
