Canada has introduced a temporary immigration policy giving eligible Palestinian nationals and certain relatives of Canadian citizens or permanent residents easier access to work permits, study permits and extensions of temporary status. The measure applies to eligible people who are present in Canada with valid temporary-resident status and whose authorized stay began on or before September 30, 2027. It covers individuals holding passports or travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority and qualifying family members who left Palestine on or after October 7, 2023.Eligible applicants may apply from within Canada for an open work permit, study permit, temporary-resident permit or an extension of their temporary status. Processing fees may be waived for qualifying applications.Individuals must still satisfy all admissibility and eligibility requirements that are not specifically waived under the policy. The measure took effect on August 1, 2026, and is scheduled to remain available until December 30, 2027, unless the federal government revokes it earlier.
