Canada has established a separate temporary policy allowing eligible Palestinian nationals and qualifying family members already in the country to renew open work permits received through earlier special immigration measures.To qualify, applicants must have valid temporary-resident status in Canada and hold a valid work permit issued under one of the designated previous public policies. Applications must be submitted from within Canada.
The measure also covers eligible foreign-national relatives of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who left Palestine on or after October 7, 2023, and received work authorization through an earlier special program.Unlike the broader fee-exemption policy, normal government fees apply to these work-permit extension applications.The policy is intended to prevent eligible residents from losing their right to work while conflict and instability continue to make returning home difficult. It took effect on August 1, 2026, and is due to expire on December 30, 2027.
