MUMBAI/OTTAWA — Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu said Ottawa is optimistic about completing a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with India before the end of 2026. Indian negotiators are expected to visit Canada next month, with further leadership-level discussions possible at the December G20 summit.
Negotiations include LNG, nuclear energy, critical minerals, agriculture and investment. Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra and JSW Group are among the Indian companies reportedly examining Canadian opportunities.
Why it matters: A trade agreement could rebuild Canada–India economic relations and create new investment and supply-chain opportunities despite recent diplomatic tensions.
