WEST BANK — An Israeli settler was shot and killed near the Neve Tzuf settlement, while the suspected gunman was later detained at a hospital. In a separate incident near Jenin, Israeli troops killed a Palestinian man whom they accused of attempting to drive a vehicle into soldiers.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an expansion of military operations in the occupied West Bank. It has not been established whether the two incidents, occurring before Yom Kippur, were connected.
