The Canada Post Employees pronounced that it will start rotating strikes on Monday at 12:01 a.m. in Victoria, Edmonton and Windsor, and at 1:01 a.m. in Halifax.
The strike, according to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), will last for a day with each location schedule striking daily.
In a statement, the union said that the strike can be avoided if last-minute agreements are reached on Sunday evening.
Talking to media, CUPW national president, Mike Palecek said, “Canada Post had the chance this weekend to stop any postal trouble on Monday, but instead, as they have for approximately a year, they declined to talk about the issues that matter to our members.”
Canada Post has been given time till the end of the weekend (20-21 October) by the CUPW to reach a deal and terminate the union’s strike action.
But, the union stated that it has been negotiating agreements with Canada Post for nearly a year for the Rural Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) bargaining units and Urban Postal Operations.
A warning has been issued by the Canada Post that customers may experience slight delays due to rotating strikes, while negotiation is not reached.
