With Dusshera festival is around the corner, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ludhiana Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal on Wednesday, urged Dusshera Committees to celebrate the festival following all the guidelines and taking all the necessary precautions amid the COVID-19.
Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police were jointly holding a meeting with several Dusshera Committees of the district to seek their suggestions and plan how to celebrate the festival while adhering all the COVID-19 safety protocols.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma while addressing the meeting said that although COVID-19 cases have been witnessing downfall, they should not give chance to COVID-19 for the second wave.
He said that the Punjab Government wants to see people happy and festivals should be celebrated but organisers should take all the necessary steps to keep the celebrations brief while adhering to all the safety protocols. He said organisers will have to provide masks to gathering in case anyone didn’t wear, have to maintain social distancing and should provide sanitiser and hand wash facility at every entrance.

He asked organisers to live their functions by tying up with some local channel or on social media platforms which will help in keeping the gathering less and also encouraged people especially elderly people and children to celebrate the festival at their homes by watching live and avoid going to events.
Deputy Commissioner, while soliciting support from the Dusshera Committees offered all kind of help from the District Administration.
Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal asked organisers to avoid the organising fairs like langars, stalls and amusement for children as it will result in huge gatherings. He said that Ravana Dehan is allowed but organisers should keep the function short and try to keep the gathering minimum.
Meanwhile, the Dusshera Committees while assuring full support and cooperation to the district administration and police said that they will keep their functions short and follow all the guidelines laid by the government.
