Deepika Padukone’s first look as an acid survivor in her next film Chhapaak is
revealed.
The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar, who is working together with Deepika for the first time. Deepika’s character is called Malti and the film is based on the inspirational real-life story of acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.
Laxmi outlived an acid attack at the age of 15. She was attacked by a man and his two associates as she refused to marry the former.
Since the incident, she has been battling against the sale of acid and acid violence. She founded an association called Stop Sale Acid to accomplish this objective and raise her voice for the rights of acid attack victims.
Laxmi Agarwal was honored with the 2014 International Women of Courage award by the then US First Lady Michelle Obama.
Deepika appears to be in full prosthetic makeup in the picture she shared on her insta, the image demonstrates her in an artistic pose that features the burns and scars on her character’s face. In addition to revealing the first look, Deepika wrote,” A character that will stay with me forever…#Malti…….Shoot begins today!#Chhapaak
………… Releasing-10th January, 2020.”
The actor had recently shared a behind-the-scenes picture from a table read session from the film, which also showed her co-actor, Vikrant Massey, in a bearded look. Deepika quoted William Shakespeare in the caption,” All things are ready, if our mind be so.”
This would be Deepika’s first production under her banner.
