DISCUSSION WITH SPEAKER, PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA
ABOUT COMING SESSION
CHANDIGARH – Partap Singh Bajwa, Leader of Opposition, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, along with two senior Congress MLAs, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Sukhpal Singh Khaira, met the Hon’ble Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, today, in his chamber for discussion on the important issues during the coming Budget Session.
They impressed upon the Speaker for the announcement of the date of the session by the Government at least a month in advance on the pattern of Parliament for giving the members enough time to make necessary preparations for constructive participation in the discussions during the sessions. Further, to make the role of the Legislature really meaningful and effective, the Speaker was requested to allow discussion on the various reports of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Committees and departmental administrative reports, to strengthen the democratic functioning in the State. Besides, it was also requested that the various burning issues of public interest before the State must be deliberated at length, for which sufficient sittings of the Vidhan Sabha must be held.
Bajwa also urged upon the Speaker to take his notice of the breach of privilege, which is pending before the Committee on Privileges, to its logical end which would help in making the Executive accountable to the Legislature.
