strike

Canada Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has rejected the company’s latest contract offer and has presented a counter-offer of its own.

In response to the corporation’s offer presented on 14th of November which is set to expire within three days, a fresh list of demands was released on Saturday by the CUPW.

The CUPW proposal includes the following requests:

  • Double time pay for working a sixth or seventh day.
  • 9% annual wage increase
  • New wage advancements for temporary workers, based on working 1,000 hours in a fiscal year

While offer to workers by the Canada Post includes:

  • Overtime pay for working more than 40 hours.
  • 2% annual wage increase.
  • The creation of 500 full-time positions over three years.

The company has been staging rotating strikes across the country for four weeks now and the mail system is seriously backed up.

Many millions of parcels that Canadian sent and receive at this time of year sitting right now in hundreds of tractor trailers and businesses that depend on mail service delivery are feeling a very sharp economic pitch.
