-APPRISES HIM ABOUT ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR THE FIRST BATCH OF YOUTH FROM UK VISITING THE STATE UNDER THE SCHEME FROM AUGUST 6 TO 17

  Chandigarh: UK based NRI and local coordinator of Punjab government’s ‘Connect to your roots’(CYR) scheme Varinder Singh Khera called on the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh here at his official residence and apprised him about the arrangements made for the first batch of youngsters from UK visiting the state from August 6 to 17.

          Mr. Khera informed the Chief Minister about the itinerary and boarding/ lodging facilities being planned for the visiting delegation, who was coming to visit the land of their forefathers. He said that currently, nearly 10 lakh Indians were living in England, of which five lakh were Punjabis. Khera said that the Punjab Government would realize the dream of young Punjabis, who were keen to visit Punjab-the land of their forefathers under this ambitious program.

The program Coordinator assured the Capt. Amarinder Singh that he would discharge his duty with utmost responsibility and devotion in response to the confidence and trust reposed in him by the state govt.

He said that this group would consist of 10 young boys and girls in the age group of 16-22 years. Mr. Khera said that the group would pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib besides visiting Jallianwala Bagh, Wagha Border (Indo-Pak Border), War Memorial, Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Kartarpur (Jalandhar), Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Banga, Khalsa Heritage Anandpur Sahib and others.

Mr. Khera said that the delegation would stay in their ancestral village for a day or two and attend an Independence Day celebration at one of the district headquarters. He said that after this visit he would submit the plan of the visit by youth from other European countries, to the state government, so that the youth of those countries were also made aware of their glorious heritage and culture.
