New Delhi – Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has convicted Former Chief Minister of Haryana and INLD Supremo Om Parkash Chautala for 4 years in jail and also imposed fine of Rs. 50 lakhs in disproportionate assets case.
The Special Judge Vikas Dhull heard the arguements of both sides on quantum of sentence on Thursday and the order was reserved to be pronounced today.
It is to mention here, Chautala was facing this case for acquiring disproportionate assets. The counsel representing OP Chautala pleaded before the court for leniency considering his old age, the previous jail time he had served in Tihar and physical disability saying Chautala is unfit even for changing his clothes. Interestingly, Chautala has appeared and completed his Classes 10th and 12th in Tihar after being convicted in JBT Teachers Recruitment Scam.
Whereas, prosecution (CBI- the investigating agency) contended on its stand for strictest possible punishment to be awarded in this case to avoid ‘wrong’ message.
