On Karwa Chauth, instead of fasting for the long life of their spouses, hundreds of women contractual teachers observed a 24-hour fast for the regularization of their services.
The protesters applied heena on their hands with slogans against the state government., a protester, said: “This is our way to protest against the government move to blackmail us to accept regular jobs on a monthly salary of Rs 15,300.”
Another protester said: “It is unfortunate that we have to fast for our jobs on Karwa Chauth. We just hope to get full pay scale.” Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha co-convener said: “You can imagine the level of distress among the teachers with this protest.”
