Ludhiana, May 9: Due to ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, some farmers are trying to set the wheat stubble on fire in their fields, which is a violation of the orders of District Magistrate Ludhiana. Taking strict action against one such farmer of Lalton Kalan village, an FIR has been registered against him today.
While providing information, Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Ludhiana Mr Narinderpal Singh Benipal informed that a farmer named Jora Singh, son of Gurbaksh Singh, a resident of village Lalton Kalan, had set his wheat stubble on fire, which is a violation of orders issued by District Magistrate Ludhiana under section 144 of CrPC. He informed that acting on this development, an FIR has been registered against Jora Singh at Sadar Police Station Ludhiana.
The CAO informed that the entire world is already suffering due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) and if farmers do not stop from setting the wheat stubble on fire, it would lead to pollution of environment followed by several other problems. He warned the farmers to not burn wheat stubble, else strict action under section 188 of IPC would be taken against them.
He advised that instead of burning wheat stubble, the farmers should make straw out of it, that can be given to the cattle or they should do its in-situ management. He said that the Punjab government has also allowed the farmers to sow paddy a week earlier. He said that the farmers can now sow paddy after May 13, 2020 and transplant it after June 13, 2020. He urged the farmers to not indulge in sowing of paddy before these dates else action would be taken against them.
