After following a route shown by Google Maps, three-person traveling by car, fell into a water-filled trench dug up to construct a bridge.
All the three passengers had a miraculous escaped with minor injuries.
The incident took place on the Palamattam-Avolichal road on Thursday night.
The trio, Musthfa (36), Isahakh (29) and Gokuldas (23) were traveling in the car to Munnar via Palamattam-Avolichal road.
As per a Mathrubhumi News report, the car fell upside down into a 30-feet deep water-filled trench near Palamattam.
The trio noticed that there was no road in front of them after they reached the edge of the trench.
Although the driver tried to turn the car as quickly as possible, he lost control and the car fell into the water which was 8-feet deep.
“They could escape as the car windows were kept open,” one of the injured told Mathrubhumi News.
However, the three did not know how to swim, so they had to keep a hold of the car for nearly 15 minutes, waiting for help to arrive.
Soon after, a group of six persons who were returning on bikes after a night shift in a rubber manufacturing company rescued the trio.
The PWD and contract workers did not follow the rules and the authorities had failed to set up warning boards on both sides of the trench, alleged the locals.
Minutes after rescuing the three passengers, a group of six-member arrived in the area after following Google Maps. They were informed about the incident by the locals and sent them back, the report added.
