Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Panchkula CBI court. The CBI had asked to hang Ram Rahim. Ram Rahim and his three close associates had already been convicted. Apart from Ram Rahim in 16 years of age, three other convicts Nirmal Singh and Krishna Lal and Jagdeep Singh were also sentenced. 51-year-old Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail for raping two followers.
Extensive arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in Panchkula, Sirsa and other parts of Haryana. Dera is the headquarters of the true deal in Sirsa. Security outside the Panchkula court premises has been increased. Haryana Police has blocked the way of going to court. The state government had filed a petition on Tuesday and said that due to the movement of the Dera chief, situation of law and order could arise.
In 2002, journalist Chatterjee’s newspaper ‘Full Truth’ had published a letter in which it was reported that how Ram Rahim was doing sexual harassment of women in the Dera headquarters. After this, Chattrapati was shot in October 2002. Due to severe injuries, the journalist was later killed. Security arrangements have been tightened in Panchkula considering the pronouncement of punishment.
It was alleged that the shot was shot dead by followers of Dera followers. In this case of 2002, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been named as the main conspirator. In 2003, the case was registered in this regard. This case was handed over to the CBI in 2006. The CBI submitted the charge sheet in July 2007 and in the year 2014, the arguments started in the court on the evidence, and after doing so, the case has reached this conclusion.
