Toronto – It was Huawei’s CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Meng Wanzhou looks scarce in a bigger problem.
Meng is facing extradition charges and if Meng is handed over to the US, she can be sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The court has opened the allegations against Meng in the Canadian court’s hearing on Friday.
Meng was arrested in Vancouver, on December 1, when she was changing planes on a trip to Mexico from Hong Kong.
The US is seeking for the extradition of Meng.
After Meng’s arrest, there has been a lot of tension in China and USA.
During a bail hearing in a Toronto court, the government’s lawyer appealed to the court not to accept Meng’s bail application.
He said that Meng was accused of planning to defraud many financial institutions.
If these charges are proved then she might be imprisoned for more than 30 years.
At the same time, Meng is also accused of using a covert subsidiary to sell to Iran in breach of sanctions and lying to banks about it.
The lawyer said that Meng personally denied to the US bankers that there was any link between Huawei and the subsidiary company ‘Skycom’, when in fact “SkyCom is Huawei.”
In the US, Meng will face the allegations that she has betrayed financial institutions by creating conspiracies.
The next hearing will take place on Monday.
