Chandigarh, July 30
Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) conducted the induction training of the newly recruited Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs) of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department of Punjab from 26th to 30th July, 2021. The training was attended by 56 ADOs.

Director PAMETI, Dr. HS Dhaliwal informed that the institute has been entrusted with the responsibility to train all the newly recruited 111 ADOs in the Agriculture Department. He added that PAMETI successfully completed the training of first batch of ADOs from 20th to 25th July, 2021. The second batch got trained from 26th to 30th July, 2021. The objective of the training was to make aware the newly recruited officers about the structure and functioning of their department including their roles & responsibilities so that they can perform their duties effectively.

During the training program, Commissioner Agriculture Dr. BS Sidhu sensitized the trainees about the Farmers suicides in the state and motivated them to be empathetic to the suicide affected families and support them through hand holding. Director Agriculture Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sidhu also addressed the trainees and said that these officers will act as harbinger of change as they will work at the field level and remain in constant touch with the farmers. He explained about pesticide usage in the state, Insecticide Act and its quality control.

Joint Directors of different sections of the Agriculture department interacted with the participants and explained them about different schemes/programmes being implemented in the state by their respective sections. Exposure visits to various departmental testing labs (Seed, Fertilizer and Insecticide Quality control labs) and Crop Residue Management Machinery Hall at PAU, Ludhiana were also conducted where the trainees were explained about the workings of the respective labs. Training program concluded with feedback from trainees. Officials said that attending this training was their unique experience and this will prove helpful in their career ahead.
