Verification of genuine beneficiaries of subsidized wheat under NFSA should have been done earlier
Chandigarh – Senior congress leader & Punjab’s leader of the opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa has slammed the Bhagwant Mann government for its failure to get rural development funds (RDF) from the union government for the third consecutive time.
Bajwa said Punjab has not received the RDF continuously for the third procurement season amounting to nearly Rs. 2880 crores. This financial loss would seriously hamper the development of the state especially in the rural areas.
“ I think Bhagwant should squeeze time out of his busy schedule to concentrate on the Punjab issues, especially those which need to be taken up with the union government at various levels. It must be his top priority to get the funds released for the state without further delay”, said Bajwa.
Bajwa said the central government must understand that blocking the RDF was a direct attack on the federal right of the state and this would seriously jeopardize the rural infrastructural development of Punjab.
Bajwa said the union government has also cut down on the subsidized wheat given to Punjab for the poor sections of the state covered under the National Food Security Act.
“ Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann has failed to apprise the center about the fake beneficiaries availing the scheme. The verification exercise to identify the fake beneficiaries should have been undertaken a long time ago instead of focusing your entire time and energy on the polls outside Punjab. Such a lackadaisical attitude of the AAP government will only make the genuine beneficiaries suffer”, added Bajwa.
