-ISSUES DIRECTIONS TO POLICE TO PUT AN END TO DRUG ABUSE
-SEEKS COOPERATION FROM OPPOSITION PARTIES
LUDHIANA, JULY 2: Ludhiana Central MLA Surinder Kumar Dawar has announced to launch a crusade against drug abuse and issued directions to police to put an end to the menace with effective and dedicated strategy.
Dawar convened a meeting with police officials to discuss over the problem of drugs on Monday.
MLA Dawar said that Punjab government has already waged a war on drugs since Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh took over the reins and directed the cops to ensure the drugs get completely wiped out from Ludhiana.
He asked the police department to take a strict action against if any employees and officials were found indulging in the drug menace. He also suggested them to conduct raids at medical stores which are selling intoxicants. He said that the recent drugs deaths are due to a fatal mixture of drugs which are the cause of concern.
He also advised the police officials to generate maximum awakening amongst the people on this serious issue as it needs a collective effort. He appealed the people to join the ambitious program of Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) for making this program a huge success.
Additional deputy commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Sikand, Assistant Commissioners of Police Lakhvir Singh Tiwana and MS Sidhu assured the MLA that police have been taking strict action against the persons involving in drugs trafficking. They said that police would soon hold a meeting with chemist associations and would also conduct raids on suspects.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included senior deputy mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra, Councillor Gurbakhsh Singh, Congress leaders Vipan Arora, Gurmukh Mithu and several SHOs.
