-Five day event to be held at Batala, district Gurdaspur
-Rs 2 Cr. cash prize for winning animals in milking and breed competitions
Ludhiana, February 3: The National Livestock Championship and Agri Expo-2020 would be organised by the Punjab Government in collaboration with the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry from February 27-March 2, 2020. This information was being provided by Dr Ashok Sharma, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Ludhiana. The five day event would be held at PUDA Ground, Batala, district Gurdaspur, Punjab.
He said that the Government of Punjab and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly organising the 11th Edition of the mega fair for farmers, livestock owners, veterinarians, nutritionists and various other stakeholders from the food processing and agri-sciences.
He said that during the event focus would be on ways and means to achieve more productivity and profitability for everyone and contribute to achieve higher GDP growth in the sector.
He further said that the 11th National Livestock Championship 2020 would be held on all five days. Various Competitions which include Milking Competitions of Cows, Buffaloes and Goats, as well as Breed Competitions of Horses, Cattle, Buffaloes, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Dogs, Poultry would be conducted.

The owners of the winning animals in milking and breed competitions would be given cash prizes amounting to Rs 2 crore and the winners would also be honoured with the certificates, the award winners also include the winners of the Block Level competitions held earlier. The Competition encourages owners to learn scientific and technical know-how in the care & management of their animals to enhance the milk yield and improve the breed quality of their animals.
Dr Ashok Sharma said that a series of Technical Sessions have also been planned during the National Livestock Championship & Expo 2020 which would run concurrently with the Expo. Reputed academicians, scientists, policy makers, and other experts shall address various sessions sharing the latest technological advancements in the fields of agriculture and livestock rearing that can help farmers increase productivity.
The key sessions would be held on the various issues which include ‘Way forward in Pig and Goat Farming’ on day one, ‘Future of Dairy Farming: Buffalo, Indigenous Cow and Exotic Cattle’ ‘Entrepreneurship Development and Financing’ and ‘Investment in Livestock Sector’ on day two, session on ‘Increasing Farmers’ Income: Role of FPOS and Marketing’, ‘Aqua-culture and Integrated Farming’ and ‘Convergence in animal husbandry extension’ would be held on day three, session on day four would be on ‘One-Health and Animal Welfare and on the final day Valedictory & Prize Distribution.
