Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Surya Kumar Bose released a statement on Tuesday making an appeal to authorities to bring back the freedom fighter’s ashes from Japan’s Renkoji Temple for DNA examination.

“Almost two decades ago…a precious opportunity to conduct a DNA test and to bring the remains of Netaji home to his beloved motherland was sadly lost,” he said.
