IndiGo, India’s largest airline, will introduce a tool to detect fatigue among pilots using real-time data and predictive analytics. The move comes amid rising concerns about fatigue issues among cockpit crew.

IndiGo has partnered with Thales Group, a French aerospace company, to develop the fatigue analysis tool. The airline will conduct a proof-of-concept trial for the tool over the next few months.

The tool will use a variety of data points, including pilots’ sleep patterns, alertness levels, and flight schedules, to assess their fatigue levels. The data will be collected anonymously and used to develop a fatigue detection model.

The pilot fatigue issue has been in focus following the death of an IndiGo pilot last week. The pilot collapsed and died at the boarding gate at Nagpur airport as he was preparing to operate a flight from that city to Pune.

IndiGo said it is committed to the well-being of its pilots and that the new tool is part of its efforts to ensure their health and safety.

“We remain committed to our pilots’ well-being, ensuring their health and mental well-being, ultimately enhancing passenger safety,” the airline said in a statement.
