Chandigarh, The Forest Minister of Punjab Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharmasot has termed the decline in the arrival of birds / animals of different species coming into the country as a matter of concern. He emphasised on difficulties faced by migrant birds and the efffosrts to create a suitable enviormennt. Attending the 6-day 13th International Conference of Parties (COP) in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, he said that migratory species of wildlife are arriving in countries and overseas for their livelihoods. Various types of rays including human-made electronic devices, including mobile phone towers, have reduced the number of birds and animals in India, he said.

The main purpose of the 13th Conference of Parties is to work with different countries to conserve and protect the different species of animals and birds that migrate from one place to another. Thousands of migratory birds arrive here every year during the winter season. These birds come from remote areas like Siberia and spend 2-3 months here in the Wetlands. After the inauguration, a number of different technical sessions were organized today, with special mention being made of the wetland areas of Punjab including Keshopur, Nangal and Beas. The Ramsar sites like Harike, Ropar and Kanjali were also discussed, on the occasion. The arrival of migratory animals / birds in the areas located here was appreciated, despite the degradation of the forest areas in Punjab, on the occasion.

Mr. Dharmasot also formally inaugurated the Punjab stall at the conference hall and interacted with various delegates. The stall also showcased various leaflets and brochures depicting the steps taken by the Punjab for conservation of wildlife. The conference, which would continue till 22nd February, 2020, was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi through video conferencing. The Union Forest and Environment Minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar and Babul Supriyo, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani, Forest Minister of different states of India were present on the occasion. CCF Mr. Basanta Raj Kumar, CF Mr. Manish Kumar, Field Director Mr. M. Suddagar and other officials were present too, on the occasio.
