(Boney Bindra) Jealous much? Probably! This is the last inning of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh as a politician as per his pre-election talks.
Navjot Singh Sidhu as the whole Punjab knows is not in the good books of Captain Amarinder Singh, and there are good chances that he will never be.
Another thing that is so clear to the whole state is, the current Finance Minister Manpreet Badal’s closeness to the current CM.
We were all seeing a future of Punjab where Manpreet Singh Badal, would have been a CM, thanks to his friendship with the two-time Chief Minister.
Sandesa- The Invitation
But, then something very unexpected happened; Imran Khan the then newly elected head of Pakistan invited the Local Body Minister of Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu on his motherland to attend his swearing-in ceremony.
One thing led to the another and a picture of Sidhu giving a hug to Pakistani Army chief Qamar Bajwa came out from Pakistan.
Any postmodern atomic bomb might have done just a little more destruction in the real world as compared to this photobomb did in the political world of India.
The actual hell broke on earth and suddenly everyone had something to say about Sidhu and his hug.
Some on social media went to the extent of saying, “Sidhu as well could have just kissed the guy, the hug alone was not enough”.
People during this whole madness did put a 5 Lakh rupee price on Sidhu’s head, there were people who wanted a case of sedition on his head but what hurt his cause the most is the friendly fire.
Et Tu Brute
Almost whole Indian media condemned this hug-sy gesture of Navjot, even his own associate, Captain Amarinder Singh, labeled it “Wrong for Him”.
Captain in a press interaction said, “Everyday our soldiers die on border, hugging Pakistani Chief General Bajwa…I am against this. That’s wrong for him (Sidhu) to have shown the affections he did for the Pakistan Army Chief.”
Sidhu’s Reply
Navjot Singh after this “Et Tu Brute” moment cleared that what he did came totally out of common human behavior.
“If someone (Like the Army Chief) comes to me and says that we belong to the same culture and we’ll open Kartarpur border on Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Prakash Parv, what else I could do?” was the reply of the ex-cricketer to his CM’s lash on his back.
The opposition BJP had termed Sidhu’s visit to Pakistan, especially his hug with Pakistan Army chief as “shameful”.
“On one side, the Pakistan army is involved in attacking our soldiers at the border, and on the other, Sidhu is hugging the Pakistan army chief. Does this mean he is thanking him for killing our jawans?” asked Punjab BJP chief Shwait Malik.
Now This
Ever since this process of opening the Kartarpur Corridor has started, not one day has passed in which the CM of Punjab did not speak against Pakistan and its army.
Taking about the notorious and latest Amritsar Blast Captain in a press conference said, ” It was not an ordinary bomb, but a pallet bomb, which was used by Pakistan against us, in Kashmir we have recovered same kind of bombs from militants”.
Previous head of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee even maintained that the grenade used by the terrorists in this latest bombing, had, ” Pakistan Ordinance Factory Grenade Mark” on it.
Declaring it a case of terrorism Congress’ start campaigner claimed that Pakistan is funding Khalistan Liberation Force which is killing innocents in Punjab, “This is the pure case of terrorism”, he said.
When asked about Happy PhD the Sikh hardliner, Amrinder Singh named him a tout of Pakistan and asserted that he is camping in Lahore.
Today Again
Today again, Captain during his public address from the stage of inauguration of Dera Baba Nanak construction, condemned the Pakistani army for Pathankot and Amritsar attacks.
He by name targeted the army chief of Pakistan that he must not take us for fools as India is more than capable of going on war but no one wants it anymore.
How Desperate An Attempt Was it?
Sukhi Randhawa, Sunil Jakhar, Badals, Bikram Singh Majithia and everyone else present at the inauguration function today were busy in scratching each other’s backs and faces but Captain had a war to fight on his own.
When other leaders were all caught up in Congress vs Akalis, Amrinder Singh was playing the game of thrones with Qamar Bajwa.
But this name calling and provoking another state’s army was just interpreted by many political experts around across the northern India as just another attempt of Captain to affect the corridor talks.
But, Why?
Yes, your question is valid. The corridor talks at the moment are benefiting everyone politically except the CM of Punjab, who opposed it from the Adam.
If and when the Corridor is build and opened, every Sikh and Punjabi living around the globe will have a soft corner for Sidhu, for his Qamar Bajwa hug, which has resulted into this turn of events.
Captain’s last inning as Punjab CM is half over with Sidhu immerging as the star face of Punjab, there are excellent chances that an energetic and youth minded Rahul Gandhi may choose him over Manpreet, who by the by is another Badal.
Even if the two-time CM of Punjab, Captain may want to contest in another election in 2022, he may have to fight really hard for getting the CM seat himself, with the Sidhu fame.
