Punjab Sports Minister congratulates Thomas Cup winner Dhruv Kapila by visiting his house here today
Congratulates him on behalf of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann
Chandigarh/Ludhiana: Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today congratulated Thomas Cup winner & Ludhiana resident Dhruv Kapila on behalf of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann by visiting his house, here today. He was also accompanied by Ludhiana (North) MLA Madan Lal Bagga. Meet Hayer said that with the historical victory in Thomas Cup, Dhruv has not only made Punjabis proud, but has also brought laurels to the country.
Had a great time interacting with his parents Gagan and Shivani as it’s because of Dhruv that India created history. MLA Madan Lal Bagga was also present. He said that all Punjabis are proud of this Badminton star. He said that this achievement of Dhruv Kapila would become a source of inspiration for budding sportspersons. He said that sportspersons like Dhruv are real life role models and assured that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would be meeting Dhruv in person soon.
Meet Hayer said that the existing sports policy has several flaws, due to which Punjab has lagged in sports at National level. He said that giving cash prizes to winners of international tournaments such as Thomas Cup and others is sadly not part of our existing sports policy. He said that soon, the sports policy would be amended and all flaws would be fixed. He said that previous governments developed sports stadiums in Punjab, but failed to develop grounds.
They even failed to provide basic sports kits to our sportspersons. He said that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government would give special emphasis for development of sports at grassroots level so that we can regain our lost glory. Punjab Sports Minister also congratulated Dhruv’s parents Gagan Kapila and Shivani Kapila and coach Anand Tiwari. He also wished him good luck for his future and assured of all possible support. On this occasion, Dhruv Kapila also presented his Badminton racket to Meet Hayer as gift. Prominent among those present on the occasion included ADC (Urban Development) Anita Darshi, SDM Jagdeep Sehgal, besides several others.
