Chandigarh – Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanykut) president and former Union Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Gurdwara Karte Parwan Sahib in Afghanistan’s Kabul city. He has also urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety of Sikhs living in Afghanistan.
Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that firing at Gurdwara Sahib by the terrorists is an extremely shameful and cowardly act. Dhindsa said that Sikhs and Gurdwaras have been targeted in Afghanistan for a long time. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of fear among the Sikhs living there.
He said it is really unfortunate that in Afghanistan, where the Sikh population in the ’70s was around 5 lakh, which was almost 4.6 percent of the total population, today, has only left to 250 Sikh families. This reduction is clearly due to hate violence and terrorism. Such terror activities have certainly created an atmosphere of fear among the minorities living there, said Dhindsa.
He said that due to the mindset of extremist groups towards minorities, Sikhs are being killed in bomb blasts and have been subjected to severe torture and now even the Gurudwaras are being targeted.
“I urged that the Central Government should make special arrangements for the security of the Sikhs living in Afghanistan and also ensure their immediate resettlement in India,” said Dhindsa.
