Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has advised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to shed the arrogance of power and listen to the concerns of lakhs of government employees and pensioners across the state.
In a message shared on social media, Jakhar said that on the one hand, the Punjab government was allegedly violating the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and, on the other, instead of giving employees and pensioners their rightful DA, it was threatening them.
“Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ji, isn’t this a case of ‘committing a wrong and then acting defiantly’? Remember, arrogance always ends badly,” Jakhar said.
Jakhar said the demands being raised by the employees were based on their legal rights and had also been upheld by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He alleged that the state government was forcing employees to resort to a strike by refusing to address their concerns.
He said government employees and pensioners had devoted important years of their lives to public service and played a significant role in Punjab’s development, but the Bhagwant Mann government was now denying them their rightful dues and benefits.
Jakhar further alleged that the Mann government had failed to properly manage the state’s finances due to what he described as its “inexperienced economic policies.” He claimed that government funds had been spent outside Punjab to further the party’s political interests and promote it in other states, while employees in Punjab were being denied benefits owed to them.
He urged the Chief Minister to set aside his arrogance and engage with the employees. “If the government had listened to the employees, why would they have gone on strike?” he asked.
Jakhar also said that if the BJP forms the government in Punjab, clearing all pending dues of government employees would be taken up on a priority basis.
