Kolkata: Cyclone Yas has wreaked havoc in several coastal districts of West Bengal after wreaking havoc in the Baleshwar region of Odisha. There has been a lot of damage due to strong winds and strong rains. No one has been reported injured in the storm so far in the state but communication facilities remain a problem in most of the areas affected by the storm.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been monitoring the situation from the state secretariat. Banerjee said many dams have already been damaged. Many districts have been flooded. We have evacuated about 1.5 million people so far. He said that the cyclone hit East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Bankura, West Burdwan, Howrah, Kolkata and surrounding districts Hooghly and Nadia at a speed of 75 to 110 kmph. The wind speed in the coastal area can be up to 130 kmph.
