Antananarivo: While the whole world is infected with the corona virus, the people of the African country of Madagascar have been hit twice by the drought. Thousands are forced to eat wild leaves and locusts to satisfy their hunger. Frequent droughts and dust storms have destroyed crops, leaving people on the brink of starvation.

Amir Dawoodi, senior director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), warned that the lives of children in Malagasy were in danger.Malnutrition has reached alarming levels, especially among children under the age of five. Speaking from Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo, Dawoodi told the United Nations that he had visited villages where people were forced to eat locusts, cactus, raw fruits and wild leaves to survive.

There is a drought in southern Madagascar and there are no food sources.He said that he had witnessed horrific scenes where children were suffering from malnutrition and not only the children but also their mothers and families and the entire village. He warned that there was a fear of famine and that he had never seen such a situation in the world before. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. There are many problems ranging from health to employment to poverty and climate change that have devastated millions of people.
