A federal jury in Los Angeles has convicted two Indian nationals of participating in a cargo-theft operation that caused estimated losses of at least US$2 million.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Arshpreet Singh, 28, of Sacramento, and Vikramjeet Singh, 31, of Fontana, were each found guilty of conspiring to steal goods moving through interstate or international commerce.
Arshpreet Singh was also convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The jury acquitted Vikramjeet Singh of the separate wire-fraud conspiracy charge.
How the operation worked
Evidence presented during the seven-day trial showed that the operation ran from March 2024 to June 2025. Prosecutors said members of the group purchased established trucking companies or used the identities of legitimate carriers without authorization.
The companies were then used to secure genuine freight contracts. After collecting shipments, the drivers allegedly diverted the cargo instead of delivering it to the agreed destinations.
The stolen merchandise included:
– Televisions and laptops
– Household appliances
– Solar panels and LED lights
– Vacuum cleaners
– Shoes and tyres
The thefts involved warehouses and shipping facilities across Southern California and Grand Prairie, Texas.
Prosecutors said Arshpreet Singh purchased Texas-based Z&F Transportation LLC for approximately US$22,000 in March 2024. Later that month, a shipment of televisions collected in Fontana for delivery to Florida was diverted.
The group also acquired Skyways Trucking LLC and allegedly used it to obtain and steal loads booked through freight brokers, including Uber Freight.
Sentencing scheduled for January 2027
US District Judge Anne Hwang scheduled sentencing for January 20, 2027.
Arshpreet Singh faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in federal prison, while Vikramjeet Singh faces a maximum sentence of five years. These are the maximum penalties permitted by law—not confirmed sentences.
