Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has nabbed a Patwari Abhijot Singh posted at Sub-Tehsil Jhabal in Tarn Taran district and Gurvinder Singh, Reader of Tehsildar, for accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000. The accused Patwari and Reader have been arrested on the complaint of Avtar Singh resident of village Sawargapuri in Tarn Taran.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that the complainant Avtar Singh had lodged a complaint with VB unit, Tarn Taran of VB Amritsar Range that the accused Patwari and the Reader had demanded a bribe of Rs.1 Lakh in lieu of restraining the execution of order passed by Tehsildar of Jhabal on May 25, 2023 in case of Mushtarka Khata (un-partitioned) land.
The complainant said that Gurmej Singh and Palwinder Singh had applied for partition of 68 Kanals Mushtarka Khata (un-partitioned) land at office of Tehsildar Jhabal in 2019 and without giving hearing to him the Tehsildar had passed a order in favour of Gurmej Singh and others on May 25, 2023. After this decision, Gurmej Singh in connivance with Patwari Abhijot Singh managed to get 7 Kanal 14 Marla extra land, and when the complainant approached the Patwari and the Reader of the Tehsildar. They demanded the bribe of Rs 1 lakh to prevent the execution of order for one month.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and arrested both the accused officials on the spot while accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 as a first instalment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused Patwari and the Reader of Tehsildar at Police Station VB, Amritsar Range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
