Chandigarh : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its drive against corruption on Thursday nabbed a registry clerk Gurparkash Singh and chowkidar Mangat Singh, both posted at tehsil Jhunir, Mansa district red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) said registry clerk and chowkidar were arrested on the complaint of Bahadar Singh of village Burj Bhalai Ke, Mansa district.
He informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused clerk was demanding Rs. 5,000 to implement court orders pertaining to his property but the deal was struck at Rs 2000. The complainant further informed that he had already given 15,000 to the Naib Tehsildar, Jhunir for the same work.
After verifying his information, a Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused chowkidar was arrested on the spot while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000 from the complainant on behalf of the registry clerk in the presence of two official witnesses.
The spokesperson informed that in this bribery case the accused registry clerk has also been arrested and a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Bathinda. Further investigation was under progress.
