A spokesperson of the US embassy in Pakistan said that the visa duration for Pakistani nationals has been reduced straight to three months from five years.
Not just for civilians, the new visa policy will also be applicable to Pakistani journalists.
Apart from visa duration, the US government has also increased visa application fees form $160(11,286 Indian Rupee) citizens to $192(13,543 Indian Rupee) for the Pakistani.
The move comes after Pakistan took reciprocal steps in modifying the visa policy for US citizens, including fee increment in applying for the document and reduction of visa period.
In May last year, US had imposed similar restrictions on Pakistani diplomats and as a tit-for-tat move Pakistan foreign ministry announced travel restrictions on US diplomats in that same month.
In the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, the US has also suspended financial aid worth millions to cash-strapped Pakistan for not taking serious steps to tackle terrorism.
