The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced new labels for COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) and has labelled the variant first identified in India (B.1.617.2) as ‘Delta’.

Another variant that was earlier found in India (B.1.617.1) has been labelled as ‘Kappa’. The B.1.617 variant of COVID-19 has been officially recorded in 53 territories, WHO had earlier said.
