PATIALA: Under Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s ambitious program Connect with Your Roots to apprise the youngsters aged between 16-22 years, first group of 14-youth from England visited various historic places at Patiala.
After reaching in the city from Chandigarh, the group paid obeisance at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib followed by visit to National Institute of Sports (NIS). They also visited the Punjabi University, Patiala, where a cultural program was also organized in their welcome. In evening, the group visited Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law.
Appreciating connect with Your Roots-a unique initiative of Punjab Government, the Program coordinator Varinder Singh Khera said that this step of State would go a long way to acquaint foreign Punjabi youngsters with the rich cultural, heritage and historic significance of Punjab. He said that members of first group were on 10-day tour under the program and they would visit different prominent sites of state besides visiting rural as well as urban areas.
Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib’s head Granthi Pranam Singh offered siropas to visiting youngsters and apprised them about the historic importance of Gurdwara Sahib. Tourist guide Sarbjit Singh briefed the group about history of Patiala.
Meanwhile, they visited the sports museum at NIS, where Coach VK Verma apprised them about the NIS and its role to promote sports in the country.
