A day after 58 percent of the 1.27 Cr. registered voters exercised their franchise to elect 354 members of 22 Zila Parishads and 2,900 members of 150 Panchayat Samitis in Punjab, the State Election Commission on Thursday ordered re-polling on 53 booths of eight districts, to be heldon Friday.
As per the orders, the repoll will be videographed.
The repolling was ordered after the Commission received reports of wrongdoings in some polling booths of Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samitis. The voters will recast their votes on September 21, Friday, in these polling stations from 8 am to 4 pm, said the Commission’s spokesperson.
Out of total 54, maximum 36 polling booths are of Sri Muktsar Sahib district. It has been learnt that even after the announcement of repolling, the Muktsar District administration continued to receive requests for re-poll in more booths.
Spokesperson said that re-polling has also been ordered on three booths of Sangudhon, two of Chak Madrasa, three of Lakhewali, three of Midda village, two of Bhagwanpura village, three of Danewala village, two of Aspal village, two of Babania village, three of Piuri village, one of Tharajwala village, one of Giljewala village, one of Kangan Khera village, one of Mandi Kiliyanwali village, two of Bhitiwala village, one of Mehna village, three of Mann village, one of Bhagu village, two of Lal Bai village of Sri Muktsar Sahib district.
Besides, re-polling has also been ordered for eight polling booths of Amritsar, one each of Moga, Fazilka and Faridkot districts and two booths each of Patiala, Bathinda and Ludhiana districts.
The Commission has announced re-polling on one booth of Gaggo Mahal village, two of Kot Khaira, one each of Rasulpur Khurad and Kartar Singh Nagar, one each of Bulara, Saran and Singhpura of Amritsar district.
Repolling will also ne held in one booth each of Nawa Rode in Moga, Chak Arni Wala village in Fazilka, Bakhshiwala village, Khuda village of Patiala, Dabrikhana village of Faridkot, Dayalpura Mirja village and Rattangarh Kanakwal village of Bathinda, besides two booths of Dholanwal village of Ludhiana.
The counting of votes will be held on September 22, Saturday, and would begin at 8 am.
