Members of the Washington-area Sikh community have supported EcoSikh’s plan to establish 75 native mini-forests in and around Amritsar.
The initiative was highlighted at an EcoSikh musical fundraising event held on October 4. Each proposed forest would contain approximately 550 trees native to Punjab, taking the planned plantation total to about 41,250 trees.
The campaign aims to improve biodiversity, shade and environmental resilience as Amritsar approaches the 450th anniversary of its founding. The figures represent planting commitments; the 75 forests have not all been completed.
