Ludhiana – Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today joined hundreds of protestors lending his party’s support to them against the proposed industrial park in the forest land of Mattewara.
Speaking on the occasion, Warring said, although the project had been proposed and passed by the previous Congress government, there were certain reservations expressed by different leaders within the party even at that time.
He said, although the Congress government had decided to set up the industrial park here, that did not mean it cannot be reviewed after taking feedback from different quarters in view of the environmental concerns. “There is always a scope for correction which can be and should be made and it is never too late to make amends”, he remarked.
The PCC president questioned the double standards of the Aam Aadmi Party leadership on the issue. He said, when the Congress government approved the project several AAP leaders had strongly opposed the project and protested against it. Now the same party and the same leaders are keen to implement it and acquire more land, he added.
Warring said, the environmental degradation was of serious concern. Particularly, he added, the industrial park will likely lead to discharge of poisonous chemicals directly into the river Satluj. He pointed out, Satluj river has already been polluted with the discharge of industrial waste through Buddha Nullah. “The industrial park will completely destroy the river”, he warned, while lending his party’s support to the protests.
