Bhubaneswar: The 14th Hockey World Cup in Kalinga Stadium was inaugurated on Tuesday evening with the colorful opening ceremony.
16 Hockey teams have been assembled in Bhubaneswar, known from the city of the temple.
The World Cup will be played in Bhubaneswar, the city of Odisha from November 28 to December 16.
India will play against South Africa in their pool opener today. The match will be played at 7 pm today. Pool C includes Belgium, India, Canada.
Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri, and famous music director A.R. Rahman during the opening ceremony on Tuesday performed the presentation.
Madhuri presented a special dance with 100 artists and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Hockey World Cup.
Patnaik welcomed the Odissi and hockey players from all over the world and said that I welcome all the international hockey teams, representatives and officials.
The captain of the 16 teams participating in the World Cup was present on the stage.
Patnaik embraced Shah Rukh and King Khan thanked the Chief Minister.
While holding a hockey stick in hand, Shah Rukh Khan spoke a dialogue of his famous Hindi film ‘Chak De India’, the stunned Kalinga Stadium heard the voice of applause.
The World Cup trophy was designed by Pakistan’s Bashir Mozid.
This trophy made of gold and silver is 26 inches high. Its weight is barely 11 kg.
It has 895 grams of gold and 6.815 grams of silver. The stand of the trophy is 4.7 inches.
