Chandigarh: Another star from Punjab has risen on the cricketing firmament of the country. The city of Ludhiana has given another budding cricket star to the nation in the form of Nehal Wadhera who has been selected in the U-19 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.
It is worth mentioning that Nehal is the 3rd cricketer from Ludhiana to get a chance to play at the international level. Before him, Yashpal Sharma, who was a member of the 1983 World Cup Winning Indian team and Gagandeep Singh who donned the India colours though in the senior team also hailed from Ludhiana.
A student of Class XI at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Nehal delivered exceptional performance in the Inter Zonal Championship held in Una at Himachal Pradesh with smashing marvelous century against East Zone, Half Century against Central Zone and valuable knock against West Zone.
The left-hander was rewarded for his impressive show with the bat in the inter-Zonal U-19 championship which concluded in Una, Himachal Pradesh. He was selected for the Zonal Cricket Academy in the U-16 category the previous year and also performed well in the just-concluded U-16 Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament.
Coach Charanjit Bhangu who honed the skills of this budding player is elated at the success achieved by his pupil and wished him all success in his career. Visibly overjoyed at the success of their son, Nehal’s parents Mr. Kamal Wadhera and Mrs. Gurpreet Wadhera said that the consistent efforts and hardwork by Nehal plus his coach have finally borne fruit.
The Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has also congratulated Nehal and expressed strong hope that the success achieved by the young lad would act as a shining beacon in terms of inspiring others also to take up sports.
