Newsdesk – With the world population figure crossing the figure of 8 billions on November 15, the population of India is projected to surpass China as the most populous country in the world in 2023. These projections are coming in according to World Population Prospects 2022. However, the global population is growing at its slowest rate since 1950, having fallen under 2020 , according to UN.

The latest projected estimates by United Nations suggest that the world’s population could grow to around 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050. The figures could touch the peak at 10 .4 billion people and then remain stagnant on this level untill 2100.

Antonio Guterres, UN secretary-general writes on his twitter account , “As we welcome the 8 billionth member of our human family, we must think ahead. By 2050, the world’s population will be approaching 10 billion. Action – or inaction – by the G20 will determine whether everyone can live sustainably & peacefully on a healthy planet.”

The experts are of the view that Having more people on Earth puts more pressure on Nature and it would lead people to compete with wildlife for water, food and space. Meanwhile, rapid population growth combined with climate change is also likely to cause mass migration and conflict in coming decades.
