New Delhi – AG Perarivalan, one of the convicts in Ex-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to be released, Supreme Court orders said.

It is to recall, Perarivalan is one of the accused of Rajiv Gandhi assassination who was convicted for 31 years in Jail.

‘I am free now, let me breathe’ said Perarivalan after coming out of the prison. He was just 19 years of age when he was convicted on the basis of his confession. He was under Capital Punishment (Death Penalty) year 1998 to 2014 after which he was given relief.

Perarivalan was charged for accusation of buying batteries for Srivarasan , the LTTE member who was accounted as the mastermind of the Rajiv assassination. It was proved in the court that the batteries were used to blow the bomb which killed the former Prime Minister. It was a huge legal battle. The Judgement would surely help other convicts to get relief, Perarivalan said.

On the other side, KT Thomas, the former Supreme Court Judge who sentenced Rajiv Killers has given a call to release all the convicts in this case. Total of 6 convicts are serving conviction at present. The court of Supreme Court Judge KT Thomas, it was in May 1999, the order was announced in this case and the court had upheld death penalty for 4 accused (Murugan, Perarivalan,  Nalini, Santham in the case.
