The equity benchmark indices have come to a standstill on Tuesday’s trade session amid weak global cues.
The S&P Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex started at 36,226.38 while the NSE Nifty50 at 10,850.90
At 10:29 am, the Sensex traded 210.97 points or 0.58% lower at 36059.10, and the broader NSE Nifty traded at 10825.00, down 63.35 points or 0.58%.
The top five laggards on the Nifty pack were Zee Entertainment, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Infosys, Yes Bank, and Wipro.
In global markets, the S&P 500 dropped 2.08% at the American stock market.
Japan’s Nikkei plunged 1.2% and the MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan tumbled 0.3%.
According to the provisional NSE data, the domestic institutional investors and foreign portfolio investors sold net shares worth Rs. 76.84 crore and Rs. 60.95 crore respectively on Monday.
Meanwhile, the 30-share Sensex ended at 36,270.07, with a loss of 307.14 points or 0.85%, and the 50-scrip Nifty closed 82.90 points or 0.77% higher at 10,888.35.
