The domestic equity markets started Monday’s session on a dreary note.
The S&P BSE Sensex index and NSE Nifty50 opened in higher but later see-sawed between gains and losses in the trade.
At 9:57 am, the 30-share Sensex traded at 35683.06, with a loss of 59.01 points or 0.17%, and the 50-scrip Nifty was 31.30 points or 0.29% lower at 10722.70.
The top laggards on the Nifty pack were Sun Pharma, Hero MotoCorp, Infosys, Vedanta and Indiabulls Housing Finance.
During the weekend, GST on more than 20 items such as batteries, movie tickets and televisions were reduced by the GST Council.
In the global markets, the Chinese blue chips edged high 0.2%, the MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan plunged 0.5%.
While the E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 recovered early losses to gains 0.4%.
Meanwhile, the Sensex ended 689.60 points or 1.89 lower at 35,742.07, while the broader Nifty settled at 10,754.00, with the loss of 197.70 points or 1.81%.
