The equity benchmark indices started on a green note in a seventh consecutive row on Wednesday. The NSE index Nifty50 opened at 10,930.55 and the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex at 36,441.46.

At 10:57 am, the Sensex traded 82.20 points or 0.23% higher at 36429.28, while the broader Nifty50 was at 10943.45, with a gain of 34.75 points or 0.32%.

Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 40 traded with gains.

The top five gainers in the Nifty pack were Indiabulls Housing Finance, Asian Paints, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharti Infratel with gains between 1.56% and 3.43%.

In the global market, Japan’s Nikkei traded on a stable note while S&P 500 gained 0.4%.

The MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.4%, while Shanghai blue chips traded flat.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the Indian rupee appreciated 50-paise to hit the 70 against the US dollar in the opening trade on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the 30-share Sensex closed 77 points or 0.2% higher at 36,347 while the 50-scrip Nifty settled at 10,908, up 20 points.
