President Donald Trump has nominated prominent Indian-American lawyer Neomi Rao to fill the seat of Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the powerful DC Circuit Court of Appeals.

The announcement came on Tuesday during Trump’s Diwali celebrations at the historic Roosevelt Room of the White House.

“I just nominated Naomi to be on the DC circuit court of appeals, the seat of justice Brett Kavanaugh. That could be a big story,” announced Trump.

Currently, the Senate, Rao is working as an administrator in the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).

And she might become the second Indian-American judge in the court after Sree Srinivasan, who was appointed during the past Obama regime.

Trump on his nominee said, “She (Neomi Rao) is going to be fantastic. Great Person.”

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has served on the appeals for 12 years and Rao would be the next to fill the vacated seat if confirmed.

However, an official announcement on her nomination is yet to be made by the White House.”
