The domestic equity markets started on a firm note on Monday amid weak global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty50 started at 10,853.20 and the Sensex barometer of BSE opened at 36,129.13
At 10:03 am, the S&P BSE Sensex traded 212.06 points or 0.59% higher at 36174.99, while the 50-scrip Nifty at 10850.35, with a gain of 44.90 points or 0.42%.
Out of 50 Nifty stocks, thirty-seven stocks traded with gains.
The top gainers on the Nifty pack were PowerGrid Corporation, Vedanta, NTPC, Yes Bank and Indian Oil Corporation.
In the global markets, the CSI 300 of Shanghai and Shenzhen share index plunged 0.9%.
Led by losses in Hong Kong and China, the MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dropped 0.1% in early trade.
The domestic institutional investors and foreign portfolio investors sold net equities worth Rs. 302.52 crore and Rs. 861.94 crore respectively on Friday.
Meanwhile, the 30-share Sensex had ended 33.29 points or 0.09% higher at 35,962.93 and the broader Nifty50 settled at 10805.45, with a gain of 13.90 points or 0.13% in the last session.
